Boxeight Fashion Week Finale – Li Cari Show
There was the pre-requisite red carpet with plenty of celebs and of course the designer herself Ms. Jazmin Whitley.  An impromptu dance routine to Madonna’s Burning Up erupted just before the show causing quite a lot of excitement.  What a blast from the past.  It’s really clear that the punk & new wave style has come back into play.  I should have saved all the rubber bracelets and kept my bandana.  At least I have the skinny jeans and converse still.
Okay, onto the main event.  Tonight was the finale of fashion week presented by boxeight at the Los Angeles Theater.  On the runway – Fall/Winter 2009 Li Cari collection.  Designer Jazmin Whitley’s inspiration for this collection was drawn from natural beauty, essence of nature and elegance of simplicity.  The show opened with an elegant tailored fitted striped dress below the knee which quickly became the theme for all the dresses – long and below the knee.  The use of rich fabrics such as satin and silk taffeta in both solid and prints worked well with her use of a neutral palette.  The dresses were very ladylike and perfect for garden parties, afternoon tee or luncheon with the girls.  Now the second part of the collection was definitely pumped up while still remaining true to Ms. Whitley’s vision.  I especially loved to nod to power dressing from the 80’s with an updated and sophisticated twist.  My favorite look was a winter white coat with that kitten sexy slip dress paired with knee high chocolate boots!  Wear that to the office and ain’t no one gonna mess with ya, cause honey, you look fabulous!  I must say, my only disappointment from what was such a fantastic collection was the poor production of the runway show with start and stop music, a random camera woman appearing on the runway not once, but 3 times and a very confused model.  This paired with the rather somber music was not what I thought best showcased such a collection as well as closing fashion week.  Ms. Whitley, you have an amazing eye for design, next time, let’s bring the house down!
