Feisty, determined and sophisticated are just some of the words that describe the also kind-hearted and caring singer, songwriter and actor – Becktoria. On a fierce journey to promote her campaign and brand, this elegant beauty has crossed many milestones to be where she is today. As well as being highly educated from top boarding schools and university in England, Becktoria is now based in LA where she already has many Hollywood heavy weights such as notable producers and directors lining up to work with her. Although her passion is in performing and entertaining, helping the less fortunate is one of the many things Becktoria holds dear to her heart. There is no stopping this talented starlet who has the world at her feet. We recently caught up with her and she was happy to share her story of how she got into performing and her goals to inspire others to be gracious, courageous and ambitious.
Hello Becktoria, please introduce yourself to the readers:
From a young age, I’ve always been shy, quiet and awkward and I was never good at expressing my feelings but I found comfort and joy through singing and writing lyrics.
I was born in Burma and I grew up in England. As a child I excelled in academics, however music has always been my passion. At the age of 16, I caught the eyes of several modeling scouts, photographers, and agencies, which jump-started my modeling career, however, it was more of a hobby than a profession to be honest.
I went to boarding school at Malvern Girls’ College and Cheltenham College where I received a joint music and academic scholarship. From there I went to Royal Holloway University of London where I graduated with a BSc in Biomedical Sciences with Honours. The next chapter of my life took me to Los Angeles to pursue a master’s degree in acting. After receiving my MFA, I began working full time as a singer, songwriter and actress.
What type of training have you had, if any?
Throughout my boarding school years, I had both musical and acting training. I had LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts) training in acting and speech and drama as well as taking the national GCSE Drama exam. I was also in the school drama club from the age of 13 onwards where I was cast in several plays as leads and supporting roles. I was vocally trained in classical music and achieved merits and distinctions from ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) and Guildhall School of Music & Drama. I was in the choir for 6 years as a soprano and was also in flute ensemble (flute), chamber orchestra and college orchestra (violin), big band (drums) and JIG band (vocals – pop/jazz). After moving to LA, I trained at the Groundlings Theatre & School.
Who would you say were some of your biggest influences and inspirations?
My current musical inspirations are Katy Perry, Ellie Goulding and Adele. However, I grew up loving and listening to Celine Dion and The Eagles. On the film side, I really admire Leonardo Di Caprio, Rachel McAdams and Meryl Streep for their dedicated work, creativity and theatrical range.
What has been your favorite role to play so far?
My favorite role would be playing myself in the commercial campaign 2 Feathers. There were a lot of great visuals and amazing sceneries. I was working with a top crew and production company, Rebel of America as well as with a well-known director, Rock Jacobs. I admire his work and vision and we worked really well together to create a marketing campaign introducing the Becktoria name to the world as a singer, songwriter and actress; I really feel the campaign showcases all three of my talents in one. We shot underwater for that project; something I had yet to do in my career. I was extremely scared being launched into the pool and having to literally hold a pose underwater without breathing, but it was definitely fun and the shots came out great so it was all worth it.
What has been your biggest achievement/award in your career, so far?
I’d say making it this far in life, from Burma, to schools in England, to now being in Los Angeles alone and pursuing a career in the hardest and most challenging industry. I am really thankful for everything that God has blessed me with this far. It’s hard work, but within less than a year of pursuing a professional career as a singer and actress, I’ve had several positive remarks in regards to my work and talent and I’ve been fortunate enough to be a part of some incredible projects.
What projects do you have coming up?
Currently, my main focus is developing and creating content for my music. I am in the studio daily recording new singles for my EP, which will be released early next year.
I’m also working on a project called ‘Acoustic Love’. ‘A.L.’ is a collective of acoustic covers and original songs for my YouTube channel. I am releasing a new song and video every two weeks leading up to the end of the year, the first single is my own unique version of Taylor Swift’s ‘Bad Blood’ which you can find on my YouTube/Soundcloud channels.
I’ve been cast as a lead in an upcoming TV series called ‘Drive Time’ and a supporting role for a feature film ‘Down Incognito’ that are both in pre-production. Later in the year, I’ll be working on the soundtrack for a major A-list movie called ‘Fast Life’ that is set for a release date in 2017.
Who would be your ideal co-star/co-stars?
I would love to work with Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Leonardo Di Caprio, Mark Wahlberg, Zac Efron, Will Ferrell, Seth Rogen, Seth McFarlane and James Franco.
What are your plans for the future?
Ultimately, I’d like to create a non-profit organization, which provides aid and education for underprivileged children around the globe. I would also like to start a scholarship fund for talented individuals from foreign countries to come to Los Angeles to pursue their dreams in film or music.
What would be your advice to aspiring performers and artists?
My advice would be to have faith, courage, confidence and self-respect and to understand self-worth. Never compromise your values, know who you are and where you are from and hold it true to your heart.
For those who are struggling to fit in at school or life; for those who feel like they don’t belong anywhere, you are not alone. We are all in this game of life together. Life is as beautiful as you make it. Tell your story through your art; it is a gift to create. Use these tools to inspire others, don’t be afraid to share your stories as it may help someone overcome obstacles in life.
I also believe it is important to be empathetic, to have compassion towards others as well as kindness and respect for one another. I have one motto in life: Be Inspired to inspire.
At age 16 I took a trip to Kenya to help build pathways and refurbish classrooms. Seeing the kids’ faces filled with happiness and love really inspired me. Even though the conditions they lived in were poor and harsh; they were always smiling. To me, that feeling of joy is priceless and it is that happiness I’d like to give back and share to the world through my music, story and personality.
