PSA Skin Cancer Awareness Month
Chelsea Cannell, Collette Wixom and Samantha Gutstadt team up in “Did You know?” A powerful PSA for Melanoma Awareness Month.
Los Angeles, CA. May 1 2017 After years of wanting to share the importance of early detection for what is often times called “the forgotten cancer,” More than Mrs. Co-creators Chelsea Cannell and Collette Wixom, teamed up with Samantha Gutstadt, of the wildly popular blog Samsomuch, to create “Did you know?”, a powerful PSA urging people to take skin cancer and early detection seriously. A fitting collaboration as all three girls have been affected by the disease.
“If people knew just how difficult, if not impossible it is to survive Melanoma once it has metastasized, they would take skin cancer detection much more seriously. My dad didn’t have to die so young, and I know he would want me to raise awareness so that other people don’t loose their lives to a disease that is totally preventable if caught early.” – Chelsea Cannell
Chelsea Cannell lost her father, iconic television writer and producer Stephen J. Cannell to skin cancer in just 4 short months. After watching her father die due to a very aggressive case of Melanoma, Chelsea, who had spent months by his bedside, realized that many people, including herself were unaware of how incurable melanoma is once it has metastasized. Collette lost her own grandfather in just two weeks after he was diagnosed with Melanoma. Samantha battled skin cancer herself, finding the disease while 8 months pregnant with her second child.
Together these 3 media powerhouses have chosen to use their voices and platforms to initiate a conversation about the importance of skin aancer detection and prevention. It is their hope that this video will reach the media who can help spread their message and continue the conversation.
